WARNING: This journal is kind of boring. I do not expect anyone to read it, it's usually just used for me wasting time. Don't feel any obligation to continue any further. So yeah... As the title says, a lot has happened since February. Let's start at the earliest thing I can remember that will make any kind of interesting story.
So, we had our Model United Nations competition... Our school was representing Australia. Now, if you've never been to a Model UN competition, how this one works is you have a group of 5 students on each delegation. (one country) Each student has a specific committee (I was on the legal- there was also political, special political, science/technology, and humanitarian) They spend two days in their committee working to submit resolutions to four topics. Then, on the second to last day we go to General Assembly where all the delegations get together and we try to pass all of the resolutions.
So, we're doing well, my topic was last. In order to tell my teamates how we feel about each clause, I made a smiley to sad face spectrum (5 faces) to portray it... lol.
Anyway, we get to awards. There are two highest honors winners and four second honors winners in each category. We had two students get second honors in their respective committees, and then our entire team won highest honors in GA! Out of like 60 consels, we were in the top two!
Now, in order to portray how cool this is, we weren't even sure we were going to be able to go until, like, two weeks before competition. We meet and get together once a week for less than an hour after school while many schools have a class devoted to Model UN during school every day. There are people who get graded for that comp, yet the little, middle of nowhere school with one delegation won highest honors! Then our advisor won second honors for most prepared school, even though one of our members didn't submit any of her research which was a "requirement" to win, according to the website.
hmm...
Also one of our members won in Crisis, which is a mini competition to break up the monotony of GA. It's fun- what they do is you go one person per delegation into a room- you cycle through at the same time that GA is going on, and there are 5 crisis rooms, so you're only with certain countries. There, the person will give you a crisis that is "going on" and you try and solve it in real time.
It's fun. Venezuela won in my group, and, as I said, we did have one student win her group.
At the same time was Band Competition... Unfortunately I could not make it, along with two others in Model UN. But we had two bands going, one of freshman and sophomores, the other of juniors and seniors... The juniors and seniors got a 3 (horrible) and a 2 (a little better) in sight reading... The freshmen and sophomores got either a 1 or 2... Can't remember... But yeah. They totally pawned the upperclassmen... It's kind of embarrasing... So our underclassmen made it to states. lol.
I made it into National honors Society! I don't remember when the ceremony is... Tomorrow? Eh, doesn't much matter. But I'm excited for that... I had the Model UN advisor write my snippet of awesomeness (she was also my AP US History teacher) and omg, she is so amazing to me. She thinks way too highly of me.
I love her. lol.
And the play was yesturday. (well, last show) The cast did amazing, I was so proud. I had a lot of friends in this one. (I usually have a few, but a bunch more joined for the musical)
We did Wonderful Town, so if you've never heard of it, youtube it. The songs are really catchy, especially Swing! Most people love the Conga song, but Swing is awesomer (lol- honors English what?) in my opinion.
And I'm beginning to doubt my career choices... And I haven't even started college! I am realizing how much I really suck at music... idk if I'm good enough to be a music directer! I kind of want to teach a language... Or History. And, no matter what I go into, I do want to go into law. But what do I want to do first? idk... But whatever.
As always, amazing!
Rachael
